Growing number of “John / Jane Does”:
Another homeless man who died on Toronto’s streets will be remembered

A homeless man who died on Toronto’s streets, but has not yet been identified, will be remembered at the monthly vigil at 12 noon on Tuesday, December 14, at the Church of the Holy Trinity (behind the Eaton Centre at Dundas and Yonge).

The monthly memorial, co-sponsored by the Church of the Holy Trinity and the Toronto Disaster Relief Committee, will include a vigil, poetry and a meal for the homeless.

More than 20 “Jane / John Does” are included among the 70 names added to the Toronto homeless memorial over the past two years. “The rising death toll among Toronto’s homeless is distressing enough,” says Sarah Ayers, administrative assistant to the Toronto Disaster Relief Committee. “But when there is no name, then many people worry that their relatives or friends may be among those who have died.”

P.S. – The annual Rupert memorial, to remember the ten who died in the 1989 rooming house fire, will be at 11 a.m. at Queen and Parliament, then that group will be invited to join the homeless vigil at noon at Holy Trinity.
