Up to 100 people are forced to sleep out at City Hall.  It is perhaps time that they call on the Feds to begin a National Affordable Social Housing Program.  To achieve this, the Toronto Disaster Relief Committee will assist homeless people to phone the Federal parties from Nathan Phillips Square.  Loud speakers will be set up to hear the different political party replies.

This initiative comes on the heels of the Federal election.  During the election period, 130 organizations and 2500 individuals faxed all five federal parties to end homelessness in Canada.  The organizations included St. Michael’s Hospital, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, the United Church of Canada, and many others from across the country (a full list of the organizations will be made available at the event).  Individuals included Jane Jacobs, Mayor David Miller, and hundreds of homeless people, even as far away as the Yukon.  To date, neither organizations nor individuals have received a reply.  Homeless people who are directly affected will be phoning in order to receive a much-awaited answer.  Will they act on a National Affordable Social Housing Program?
