Wednesday, June 23, 2004
* 11:30a.m. Community Meal
* 12 noon Public Fax-a-thon
All Saints Church Drop In
(corner of Sherbourne & Dundas in Toronto)

A public Vote for Housing Fax-a-thon will be held for homeless people and their supporters in the All Saints Church Drop In.  It is located where the largest concentration of homeless people in Canada live in shelters and the streets.

The I Vote for Housing petitions will be faxed out publicly to all five large National Party Headquarters in Ottawa and Quebec.  The Fax-a-thon has been going on across Canada for four weeks.  To date 1450 individuals and 75 organizations have faxed out to the political parties.  Detailed results will be made public at the event.

Toronto Mayor David Miller, Sarah Polley, Jane Jacobs, artists, authors, and other notable people have participated.  At the public event Gary Farmer, the well known Canadian actor, will stand shoulder to shoulder with homeless people as they fax out their I Vote for Housing petitions.  Yesterday, Mayor Miller sent notice to other mayors across Canada to ask them to get involved in the Fax-a-thon.

The Fax-a-thon will continue beyond the June 28th elections into the fall.

* The first public Fax-a-thon will have already been completed at PARC in the west end of Toronto.  The National Fax-a-thon is the first such action of its kind in Canadian history.
