Vote for Housing Fax-a-thon in motion.

Vote for Housing Fax-a-thon
Wednesday, June 23, 2004 * 11:30a.m.
All Saints Church Drop In
(corner of Sherbourne & Dundas in Toronto)

The Vote for Housing Fax-a-thon campaign is going on across Canada.  As this press release is being written results are going to all five main political parties and to the Toronto Disaster Relief Committee in Toronto.  Individuals, business people, health care organizations, actors, writers, city councillors, and homeless people are being asked to take part.

At the Vote for Housing Fax-a-thon on June 23rd homeless people will stand shoulder to shoulder with others and FAX their vote for housing to the different party headquarters in Ottawa and Quebec.

The need for a National Affordable Social Housing Program has so far become almost a mute issue in the election.  “Does this mean that homeless people are going to be left in the streets and in shelters,” says Cathy Crowe, Atkinson Fellow and TDRC Steering Committee Member.  “Is there no issue involving the poorest of the poor?”

The Vote for Housing Fax-a-thon will be a forceful attempt to put affordable social housing back on the Federal agenda.  In 1998, city councils and the 10 mayors of the largest cities across Canada declared homelessness a “National Disaster.”
