TDRC challenges Paul Martin to see the homeless disaster zone

Beric German of the Toronto Disaster Relief Committee challenges Prime Minister Paul Martin to see first hand the homeless disaster zone at the Homeless Memorial Board, south side of the Church of the Holy Trinity (behind the Eaton Centre at Dundas and Yonge Streets) on Thursday, May 27, at 3 p.m.

TDRC has worked over the years advocating for rights of homeless people, as well as for affordable social housing, better shelter conditions, and better access to health care services for the homeless.  As a result of this work, homelessness was declared a national disaster back in 1998.

The housing and homelessness situation in this country has reached disgraceful levels.  It’s time for the federal government to take some responsibility for its people, regardless of their socio-economic status.  TDRC would be happy to co-ordinate a tour for Paul Martin to see first hand the disaster across the country.
