WINTER RELIEF NOW! Relief Organizations and Community Members Begin Winter Campaign for Sleeping Bags and other Necessities for Homeless People
A campaign event to collect funds, sleeping bags and other goods will be
kicked off at:
(Toronto) Outreach workers are calling for donations for sleeping bags and other necessities for homeless people as winter approaches. There are hundreds of homeless people encamped outside or in abandoned buildings who are facing extreme cold weather conditions in upcoming days and weeks. Existing homeless shelters are already extremely crowded. Community members and campaign organizers have already collected hundreds of sleeping bags and will send them out with outreach vans to homeless people throughout Toronto following the media / speak out event. Some outreach workers have agreed to let media attend with them when they deliver the bags to homeless people. John Andras, the President of the Rotary Club of Toronto, says “we are listening to the outreach workers. Homeless people need urgent help to keep warm this winter. Organizations such as the Sherbourne Health Centre, the Rotary Club of Toronto, Chill Out, the Toronto Disaster Relief Committee, and numerous outreach programs are coming together to help remedy the situation. The campaign will continue throughout the winter months.” For more information, contact TDRC at tdrc@tdrc.net -30- |
