March 13, 2003 For Immediate Release NO TO WAR – YES TO SHELTER AND HOUSING
Highlights of the event 12 noon: Speakers at the American consulate and All Saints Church 1:00 pm: Two rallies will march to and converge at Jarvis and Dundas. Then homeless people and their supporters will lead the march carrying the burnt-out mattress of a man who was burnt to death recently outside. 1:30 pm: Placards with the names of over 200 homeless people who have died will be placed outside the Armoury. 1:45 pm: Protesters will encircle and march around the Armoury. “Canadians have said clearly that we don’t want war – but what do we want? We want housing and shelter – basic human rights. We will not have our resources used to kill and make others homeless. The Armoury, which is a symbol of war, can now be used for peace, shelter and housing,” says Cathy Crowe of the Toronto Disaster Relief Committee.
