Challenges to Human Rights

Toronto Disaster Relief Committee is speaking out against the increasing criminalization of homeless people in Toronto. The City of Toronto has succeeded in banning homeless people from Nathan Philips Square and several other public locations.

Recently, former Councillor Jane Pitfield tried to ban panhandling. In early 2007 Councillor Case Ootes introduced a motion to ban panhandling in Toronto's tourist areas. The motion was sent to city staff for study. See this link for a TDRC press release opposing Ootes' motion:
